6 Music

Hello all,

As an intelligent, handsome and music loving person, I am sure you will regularly listen to BBC 6 Music on digital radio or the Internet. Even if you don’t you are probably aware of its deservedly brilliant reputation.

The BBC are making cutbacks and 6 Music is facing the chop. This cannot and should not happen. As far as I can see it is the only reason to own a digital radio. It has a great and varied output, intelligent music loving DJs (George Lamb excepted) and gives a platform for new and emerging music. I’ve discovered loads of great music I would never have heard if not for 6 Music. It would be such a sad loss to see this station go. What would we do without Adam and Joe on a Saturday morning?

The BBC have said they will not do anything before a public consultation. People - we have to make our views known. I’ve been sent a link to an online petition to save 6 Music and the Asian Network, which is aiming to collect 100,000 signatures. It claims to have collected 40,000 already. I’ve signed it and would urge you to do the same. Here is the link. Please forward this to anyone else you think may be interested.

You may like to contact the BBC trust directly and make your views known. Here is their email address: trust.enquiries@bbc.co.uk.

Resistance is fertile.

£800 raised for Haiti last night!

What an amazing night we had at Braziers Park. Everyone really pulled out all the stops to help make a really magical evening. Braziers Park  Thank you so much to everyone who helped to plan, run, organize, cook, serve, greet, sing, clap, watch, listen, donate, perform and just be generally wonderful. Over £800 was raised - every penny of which will go directly to Avaaz for their Haiti appeal.

This from the Avaaz website: “100% of funds raised will go into post-earthquake relief and rebuilding programmes and efforts to strengthen local systems in Haiti — it’s the most direct way to build Haiti’s resilience and help meet the desperate needs of the people on the frontline who need help urgently today”

Chilly Ballroom

Syd I could never have expected the last Ballroom to be so busy as it was right in the middle of FROZEN BRITAIN.  Thanks as always to all who braved the weather and came down - it was a great and eccentric night.

We had 3 poets, some inspired cover versions, the controversial use of a Stylophone, a whole bunch of talented young folk, and as if that were not enough, some Capoeira…. blimey!
See what you missed/relive the night by clicking on the gallery button.
Oh, I nearly forgot, you can now follow the Ballroom on Twitter. I’m still new to it, but I think you have to use this: @theacousticblrm
